Sherry Chang

Ms. Sherry Chang grew up in a musical family in Tainan, Taiwan where everyone learned music from the age of 3 and played at least two instruments. Sherry was enrolled in a music-gifted program in Tainan at the tender age of 7 sponsored by the Government of Taiwan, where she Majored in Piano and Minored in Violin. Sherry played the violin in an orchestra at the age of 9. Growing up, she participated summer camps in Tainan, Taiwan facilitated by one of the most prestigious music schools in the world, Manhattan School of Music (New York City, USA).  

Sherry immigrated to Canada with her family just as she began high school. She was the Concertmaster (lead violinist) at Silverthorne Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke, Ontario. Throughout high school, Sherry also conducted and accompanied in the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church Choir in Toronto, Ontario. 

Ms. Sherry Chang obtained her Grade 10 RCM Piano with First Class Honors. Ms. Chang completed her Honours Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. Sherry was the co-winner of the Concerto Competition at Kitchener-Waterloo Community Orchestra in addition to being a finalist at the Wilfred Laurier University Concerto Competition in 2000.  Ms. Chang is also an Award Winner at Peel Music Festival and Markham Music Festival.  Sherry’s teachers include Jeannie Wang, Dr. Kent McWilliams, Dr. Francine Kay, Boyd McDonald and Dagmar Rydlo.  Ms. Chang participated in masterclasses at the studios of Dr. James Parker, Heather Taves and took Voice Accompaniment with Leslie De’Ath and Piano Pedagogy with Terry Kroetsch.  Sherry studied theory with composer and Professor Larysa Kuzmenko, Dr. Janet Lopinsky and Peteris Zarins.  

Sherry has helped numerous students pass their piano and theory exams with flying colours. Some of Ms. Chang’s students have also won First Place Awards in local Music Festivals.  In addition to her teachings, Sherry accompanies her students regularly for their RCM exams and concerts. 

Sherry is a Certified Yamaha Teacher. Sherry is also a Certified Teacher in Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced Piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music.  Sherry has taught music for over 26 years and enjoys teaching all levels and ages. A love for music underlies everything Sherry does.
